When Marina Broeder Broeder started teaching English as a second language in Santa Clara, Calif., 16 years ago, she never imagined she'd end up as one of the nation's top instructors.
But Broeder, who was born in Russia and studied linguistics and intercultural communication at Moscow State Linguistic University before earning a master's degree in teaching English as a second language at Mission College, has now earned a doctorate in educational leadership, focused on equity and social justice, from Stanford University, per a press release.
Broeder's research focuses on "the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence in higher education," which she describes as "the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence in higher education."
She has taught non-credit courses in the English for Food Service program at Mission College, as well as an online grammar review course, and has helped organize the college's annual International Education Week celebration.
Broeder's dissertation will be published in the June issue of the American Journal of Education.
