The school was constructed in 1930 and was converted to an elementary school in the 1960s before it closed in 1996.
Jimmy Robertson, a volunteer consultant with the foundation, has said the group was established in March 2022 and diligently has worked to improve the site in any way possible, including landscaping and window replacement.
The total project budget is anticipated to be $876,460, which consists of $431,000 in grant money and $445,000 in matching funds, the resolution to apply for the grant reads.
Warner and Kaine worked to secure more than $125 million for community projects across the commonwealth, a release said.
