Dp Resident Completes Orlando Health Volunteer Program, Earns Job

Justin Clemento, a 22-year-old nursing assistant at Orlando Health's Health Central and Horizon West hospitals, was looking for a way to give back to the community when he heard about the hospital's Healthcare Career Opportunity Volunteer Program.

"I was eager to sign up to gain exposure to various health care professions in a way I previously thought impossible," he tells the Orlando Sentinel.

And thanks to the program, he's now working full-time at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he also volunteered.

Orlando Health started the program last August, and in its first year, it had 15 applicants, with 12 completing the program at Health Central and three at Horizon West.

But Clemento was one of just 12 to actually complete the program, which involves a rotation of volunteer work at the hospital, culminating in a letter of recommendation and the opportunity to round with a physician for a day.

Participants gain experience in areas including critical care, cardiovascular services, community engagement, care management, and clinical engineering and imaging.

"My biggest learning experience from the program was coming to understand that even though each position throughout the hospital is often very different, everyone is working together with the same goal in mind of providing the highest quality of care possible," says Clemento, who now hopes
