The White House is rolling out a major initiative to create a nationwide corps of young people to help fight climate change, the New York Times reports.
The American Climate Corps, which was announced by Joe Biden last week, is a joint effort by the federal, state, and local governments, as well as businesses and universities.
The goal is to create 20,000 climate-related jobs by 2024, and 200,000 by the end of President Obama's second term.
There's no word yet on how much the program will cost, but a White House official says it will be "substantially larger than any other federal AmeriCorps program."
The website for the program, which has already launched in 13 states, lists under 2,000 jobs at the moment, but a program director tells Mother Jones that the program will "definitely help raise awareness and recruit."
