Barbara Mutabazi Spearheads Ict Inclusion in Women

"When you build something that people need, you do not need to look for customers, your product sells itself," says Uganda's Barbara Birungi Mutabazi.

"And that is what we are doing, helping young people to figure that out."

Mutabazi, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Computing at Makerere University Business School, has since gone on to earn a Master's in Information Systems and Management at Salford University in the UK, as well as a Stem MBA Master's at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Now, the mother of four is the brains behind Hive Colab, a platform that connects young women in Uganda with jobs and other opportunities, reports Quartz.

"We concluded that it was a confidence issue, in that if a young woman does not fully understand a point, in a room that is full of men who are potential husbands, she is going to keep quiet to avoid the risk of looking stupid," says Mutabazi, who is currently doing her MBA at MIT.

She says it's hard for young women in Uganda to find jobs, especially without access to the Internet, so she set up the platform to connect them to other young women in the country who are also job-hunting.
