Students of four high schools in Tamale in the Northern region have emerged champions in a debate competition on climate change.
The schoolsthe Northern School of Business, Kalpohin, Ambariya, and the Tamale Girls' Senior High Schoolwere presented with cash prizes and certificates as part of measures to encourage them to be advocates against climate change, the Ghana News Agency reports.
The debate, dubbed "Innovative Challenge and Creative Solutions on Climate Change," tasked the schools to identify and develop an innovative approach toward addressing climate change issues in their communities.
The executive director of the Afri-Youth and Empowerment Center for Peacebuilding, which organized the competition, said it was to encourage young people to lead in the fight against climate change with the concept of climate action, adaptation, mitigation, as well as introducing climate smart practices for sustainable development.
