Aziz Khan Next Chair of Unicef Int'L Council

"I see education as the bedrock of modern civilization and builder of trust amongst humanity and that by enhancing understanding, education has the power to reduce social conflicts and bring more harmony into the world."

That's what Bangladeshi billionaire Aziz Khan has to say about education in his new role as chair of the Unicef International Council, the BBC reports.

According to a press release, Khan, the founder of Bangladesh's Summit Group, will take over from Maria Ahlstr ? m-Bondestam in November 2024.

Ahlstr ? m-Bondestam, the inaugural chair of the Unicef International Council, says she's "thrilled" and "looking forward to working with him to shape a better, fairer future for all children."

Since joining the Unicef International Council in 2022, Khan and his family have been active philanthropists, contributing to schools, hospitals, and other projects in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Star reports.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Khan decided to focus AACT's efforts on education, prioritizing getting children back into classrooms and helping them catch up on lost schooling.
