Occf Awards Over $46K in Community Grants

The community of Rising Sun, Indiana, is putting its money where its mouth is.

The Ohio County Community Foundation has awarded more than $47,000 in grants to 14 local nonprofit groups, the Herald-Times reports.

The money comes from the Ohio County Today and Tomorrow Endowment Fund, which was created by the city of Rising Sun and the county to "fund the pressing needs in Ohio County," per the foundation's website.

Among the recipients: Ohio County Public Library: $5,000 for a new server to keep library records saved and up to date.

Phi Beta Psi Sorority: $1,000 for a new chair for events and rentals.

People Helping People, Inc.: $4,500 for canned goods to be distributed from the Rising Sun Christian Outreach Food Pantry to help feed the less fortunate throughout the year.

Ohio County Youth Development, Inc.: $982 to purchase supplies needed to clearly mark the course for the safety of the tractor events during the 4-H Fair.

River Valley Resources: $2,060 to provide Adult Education HSE (formerly GED) testing fees and Essential Education Learning Software for Ohio County residents at the Education Center of Rising Sun.

Ohio County Courthouse: $3,000 toward courthouse enhancements needed.
