The Children's World Fair was held in Philadelphia in 1876 as part of the Centennial International Exhibition to explore cultural and technological innovation.

Now three of the city's most-loved institutionsthe Please Touch Museum, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the Mann Center for the Performing Artsare teaming up to explore the possibility of holding a similar fair in 2026, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

"The focus on children and really getting them ready for the world has never been more significant," says Patricia Wellenbach, CEO of the Please Touch Museum.

"So we looked at each of our missions, and then we just started talking."

The zoo would focus on conservation, climate, and the environment, while the Mann Center would focus on creative and performing arts programming.

The three institutions have received a $400,000 planning grant to help them prepare for the 2026 Semiquincentennial, which will also see the city host the FIFA World Cup and the MLB All-Star Game.

The Children's World Fair would be held in and around Fairmount Park Centennial District, where they are all located.

The museum is already planning an exhibition on democracy for 2026 to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
