Delegates from nearly 200 countries are meeting in Lima, Peru, this week for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP 28, and the theme for this year's talks is "Amplifying Women's Voices, Combating Climate Change: Gender-Climate," reports the State Department in a press release.
The department's ambassador for global women's issues,Geeta Rao Gupta, kicked off the month of Women's History Month by highlighting women's contributions to the fight against climate change, noting that "in their vision, leadership, and in their visibility, are using the power that they have made to shine a light and pave the path forward."
