Arizona State University's West Valley campus has a new advisory boardmade up of military veterans, business leaders, alumni, and othersto help support the Pat Tillman Veterans Center on the Tempe campus, the Arizona Republic reports.
The advisory board is part of ASU's West Valley Forward initiative, which the university says shows it's committed to meeting the educational and economic growth needs of the booming West Valley.
Shawn Banzhaf, executive director of the Tillman Center, says it's important to form the advisory board for three reasons: career readiness, having an outsider's perspective on how things are run, and finding philanthropy to fund their goals.
"Our center's staff has tons of ideas and innovations, but we should always ask ourselves, 'Just because we can, should we?'" Banzhaf says.
The advisory board members will serve a two-year term and have made a $1,000 philanthropic commitment to support Tillman programs on ASU's West Valley campus.
They represent a cross-section of private-sector and nonprofit organizations, ASU alumni, veteran service organizations, and higher education-related organizations, ASU News reports.
