The US Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, is teaming up with a foundation called the Future Map Foundation to help grow the tech industry in Africa, the Guardian reports.
According to a press release, the first Global Tech Africa Summit was held in the country last month.
The summit was designed "to unlock growth opportunities for the tech ecosystem in Africa" by bringing together "hundreds of stakeholders from the African and international tech communities to discuss and unlock growth opportunities for the tech ecosystem in Africa," the release says.
One of the summit's speakers, Dr. Bunmi Akinyemiju, says Africa's human capital "can become its greatest export and source of income," the Independent reports.
"We in the so-called developed countries also have a lot to learn from Africa ecosystem," he says.
"We believe that by coming together and sharing ideas, we can collectively address challenges and create a thriving tech environment in Africa."
The Consul General of the US in Lagos, Will Stevens, says the US is committed to supporting the tech industry in Africa.
