Michelle Staples, mayor of Duncan, British Columbia, is suing the provincial government for not doing enough to fight climate change, which she says is causing mass extinctions and is already taking a toll on local economies.
"The effects of climate change are already taking a toll on our health, our economy, and our way of life," she says in a statement.
"We need courageous climate action more than ever."
