They're young, they're ambitious, and they're giving back to their schools in a big way.
That's what 26 high school students in White County, Ind., are doing with the Youth Philanthropy Council, a new group created by the Community Foundation of White County.
The YPC's mission is to "empower local youth to build leadership skills, learn about philanthropy, and identify and support projects that make a difference in their school communities," the foundation says in a press release.
The students, who hail from Twin Lakes, Frontier, North White, and Tri-County high schools, worked with peers to create a grant-making process, promote their grant opportunities, review and make recommendations for grants, and volunteer in their schools and communities, the press release notes.
This semester, the YPC awarded $10,000 in grants to four schools.
"We gave away a little under $10,000 and every penny of it went to helping our schools and their programs," says YPC Vice-President Aiden Vrotny.
"Not to mention the experience we all got in decision making and grant giving!"
