UK's first social enterprise hotel is being planned and designed, which is loosely based on the Art & Woonhotel in Rotterdam. The planned hotel is where vulnerable youth would be offered training in hospitality.
The hotel will have 120 rooms, of which 40 will be designed as self-contained apartments for those requiring short-term accommodation and the majority will be high-quality hotel rooms.
A precursor to the training hotel, a new social enterprise cafe, Artysans, is providing training and job opportunities to young people in the city.
Running a cafe and a hotel involves almost all the skills required in running a town. With growing numbers of young people out of work, social enterprise businesses can be used as a model to ensure young people are not left disengaged.
