When the Perlman Music Program was founded in 1994 as the East Hampton Music Festival, it was "a true mom-and-pop organization running a two-week program on not much more than a dream," says founder Toby Perlman.
Today, "all summer long, we provide individualized mentorship for exceptional young artists."
The Long Island program, which has been based on the campus of the Perlman School of Music on Shelter Island since 2000, offers chamber music workshops and a seven-week summer music residency for musicians ages 12 to 18, the New York Daily News reports.
"Without the next generation of world-class musicians, the musical world and its audiences will be the poorer," Perlman says.
"More than anything, this prospect drives us to do what we do at."
The program's summer offerings include the Chamber Music Workshop, a three-week residency for college-aged musicians, and the Summer Music School, a seven-week residency for musicians ages 12 to 18.
Both programs include numerous public performances for East End audiences.
