For six months in 2024, 19 performers and one composer will come together in Winnipeg, Canada, to create a song for voice and piano from scratch, the CBC reports.
"Having the creators, performers, and audience in the same room engaging in dialogue is a luxury that (art) Song Lab participants also have the opportunity to attend workshops and mentoring with two Winnipeg legends of national acclaim," says the program's website.
Participants will learn the songs in intensive rehearsals, then perform them at a concert.
They'll also take part in workshops with composer Andrew Balfour and poet Di Brandt.
"There's something truly special about the singing happens in Winnipeg," says Michael Park, who co-founded the program with Alison d'Amato in 2011.
"After moving away from Manitoba, I realized how privileged I was to have sung in the Winnipeg Boys Choir, at the New Music Festival, and to have studied at the University of Manitoba's Bachelor Music program in 2007."
