A school district in Iowa has become the first in the Quad-City area to get an electric school bus.
The Quad-City Times reports on the move by the East Moline School District, which got $395,000 from the EPA's 2022 Clean School Bus Program to buy a battery-powered bus.
Superintendent Kristin Humphries calls it "a plus for the environment, and in talking to our students about sustainability."
The district plans to use the bus for an educational event or "unveiling" for students, but it won't be on any routes until fall due to a driver's medical leave.
East Moline isn't the only one making the move.
A high school in the same area got an $840,000 rebate to buy four electric buses.
