Idaho State University is putting on a free, all-American concert to raise money for scholarships for music students.
The July 6 concert, titled "All-American Festival Concert," will feature marches, jazz, dixieland, and dance music, as well as American compositions by John Williams, John Philip Sousa, Oscar Peterson, Aaron Copland, and Stars and Stripes Forever, the Times-News reports.
"Our community is coming together in an extraordinary display of unity and creativity to host the All-American Festival Concert," says Thomas Kloss, associate director of athletic bands.
"It's mind-blowing to me that this is happening," he adds.
"We wondered if we would have enough interest, especially with students being away over the summer, but the response has been incredible."
More than 130 musicians have pledged their time and talents to perform at the concert, which will benefit a new scholarship endowment for music students.
"Our community is coming together in an extraordinary display of unity and creativity to host the All-American Festival Concert," Kloss says.
"This will be a celebration of American composers and music forms and should be a great way for the community to connect and celebrate such an important part of our history."
