Frameline And Colin Higgins Foundation Reveal 2024 Grant Recipients

The Colin Higgins Foundation is awarding $15,000 each to two young filmmakers as part of its effort to support the next generation of leaders in the gay, lesbian, and transgender communities.Farah Jabir andLeaf Lieber, both under the age of 25, were announced as the recipients of the grants Tuesday at the 48th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, the New York Times reports.

"I am humbled by Frameline and the Colin Higgins Foundation for choosing me for a continuation grant," Jabir said in a statement.

"As an emerging filmmaker, I am incredibly grateful for their support and belief in me and my work."

The foundation, founded by the late filmmaker and screenwriter Higgins after he was diagnosed with HIV in 1985, has awarded more than 660 grants totaling more than $5.8 million to LGBTQ youth organizations and programs since its founding.

The two filmmakers will each receive $15,000 for their next film projects.

"I can't help but think of her during this time," Lieber said of her late mother, who was a huge fan of Higgins' classic films Harold and Maude and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

"I am honored, shocked, and endlessly grateful," she added.

"It's beyond me to have my work recognized in this way."
