"She could be at home with a traditional sketchbook and ink pen, but also loves to draw digitally and have all those related tools, brush, and colors at her fingertips," says Paige Oden, an art teacher at Orange County School of the Arts in California.
"Violet gives 100% to every art project and is self-motivated like no other student I have encountered."
That student isViolet Adams, a senior who's been named Orange County School of the Arts' Artist of the Year in Media Arts for 2024, the Los Angeles Times reports.
"She can work in any media but it all resonates from her love of drawing and creating characters and digital drawing," Oden writes on the school's website.
Adams is one of 85 students nominated by their teachers and arts organizations, the Orange County Register reports.
"Gabi Ahn has been a staple in my art room since I met her during her freshman year: artmaking for her is serious business," Oden says of the Portola High School student.
"Gabi has blossomed this year: warm, funny, surrounded by friends in class, ready to encourage or give adviceshe is an artist to watch."
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in May, the Times notes.
