Wayland, Mich., is replacing a welcome sign that's been around for a decade with one that's much more up-to-date.
The city has received a $25,000 grant from the state of Michigan to replace the 10-year-old sign with an electronic one, as well as install a speaker system on power poles throughout the downtown area, reports WOOD-TV.
The city also plans to use the money for a "Hype" program, in which "influencers" in the city promote things like "date night" and "daddy-daughter days" for businesses, says Holli McPherson, the city's downtown development director.
"It creates loyalty with our residents," she says.
"It takes a burden of us not doing social media off and allows the creativity of other people to step in and help."
Wayland is the second Michigan city to use the program, after Owosso.
