If you've ever wanted to play the harp at a party, wedding, or other public event, you'll soon be able to.
Francesca Florance, director of the harp program at Odessa High School, has been awarded a $2,000 grant from the Education Foundation of West Texas to buy four microphone set-ups for the school's full-size harps, the Odessa American reports.
The set-ups will allow the school to amplify the harps' sound, allowing them to play at bigger events or in louder spaces, Florance says.
"If you do regular smaller weddings or things like that, if you're in an enclosed space, usually you're going to be loud enough on your own," she says.
"But if you're at a huge wedding, or an outdoor wedding, or any kind of like outdoor event, your sound can get lost a lot easier."
Florance tells KFDA that a harp company makes their own mic pickup that attaches to four microphones that attach inside of the harp to pick up the full range of the instrument.OHS has seven full-size harps and four will be getting the microphones, she says.
