"A mind is a terrible thing to waste."
That's the message the United Negro College Fundthe largest and most effective minority education organization in the USis sending with the launch of its Philanthropy Institute, the New York Times reports.
According to a press release, the Philanthropy Institute "reimagines the practice of fundraising, leveraging culturally informed expertise and a commitment to racial justice and social equity."
"Black donors give 25% more of their income than other racial groups, yet the professionals who fundraise in these communities may not have the insight or training to work within this demographic,"Shawna Acker-Ball, senior director at UNCF's Teaching + Learning Center, says in the release.
The Philanthropy Institute will provide training for fundraisers at UNCF member colleges and universities, as well as consulting services for organizations seeking to expand their fundraising capabilities.
The Philanthropy Institute is scheduled to begin offering courses in January.
