A 38-year-old woman from the oil-rich Niger Delta has been named as Nigeria's new commerce minister, making her the first woman from the region to hold the post, the Guardian reports.
Stella Okotete, executive director of business development at the country's Export-Import Bank, has "ignited a passion with undiluted commitment within herself to make a significant difference in her community and across the country," says a statement from a youth group that praised her "innate ability to hunt for the best brains to get the job done."
Okotete's appointment is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's promise to include women and youths in his administration.
