NBA Names Winners of NBA Foundation HBCU Entrepreneur Pitch Competition

In collaboration with the national organization Black Girl Ventures, the NBA Foundation held a pitch competition on June 17, 2022, as a part of the NBA's continuance of social impact programming in Greater Cleveland after All-Star 2022. (BGV).

Following All-Star 2022 in Greater Cleveland, the NBA partnered with national charity Black Girl Ventures to host a competition for college-aged Black and Brown entrepreneurs to showcase their business ideas for a chance to win funding (BGV). The businesspeople are part of the NBA Foundation's BGV NextGen Program, which strives to provide student entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 24 access to capital, resources, and a community.

Members of the NBA family, including Cavs head coach J.B., served as judges for the competition.

Bickerstaff, prominent local businesspeople in Cleveland, and alumni from HBCUs reviewed company plans and offered counsel to student-entrepreneurs at HBCUs. Malcolm Lee and Daa'iyah Fogle shared first place in the contest and each won $5,000 for their businesses.

Fogle, a graduate of Claflin University, is the company's founder and CEO.

Attendees and their networks may vote on the best pitches over the course of the next seven days to choose the second- and third-place winners, who will earn $6,000 and $2,000, respectively. Champions of the pitch tournament included: J.B.
