California Governor Jerry Brown's office has awarded two grants to the city of Stockton, one for $12 million, that will be used over the next six years to support "cradle-to-college" services for young people in south Stockton.
Karen Baker of CaliforniaVolunteers made the announcement Friday while taking a tour of Stockton with dozens of representatives from philanthropic organizations around the state."We approached (Mayor Michael Tubbs) and said we were inspired by his leadership and the community's activism and wanted to be a part of it," Baker said. Baker said a to-be-announced south Stockton community organization will oversee the spending of the funds.
