The Kellogg Foundation awarded $2.5 million to City Connect Detroit, an organization that helps support employment for young people in Detroit. In previous years, there were no jobs for young people, and they were not prepared for the jobs that did exist. City Connect is working to change that, but needs support from philanthropists and the community.
City Connect has worked since 2008 with youth employment in Detroit by creating a summer job program, and now works under other city organizations to find youth to participate in the job program. Other parts of the program, such as job placement, have been led by other local organizations, and all of it depends on donations to help run and improve the programs. The Kellogg grant will help maintain the program for now and provide support for finding a long-term solution to keep the program sustainable.
