Santa Maria is one of the few places that will be given the chance to take advantage of a grant that would help communities with high-risk kids and young adults. The grant is called Santa Maria Summer Jobs and Beyond and it will find participants that who may be connected to gangs and get them into jobs in the hopes that they will gain the skills and knowledge to help them later on in life.
A reason why Santa Maria was one of the chosen locations was because of the gang and violent activity going on involving the youth, so this program is a great way to target those involved and help them get out of potentially dangerous situations and lifestyles.
